Thompson is an incredibly talented player who is projected to be selected as a top 5 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Recruiting and Early Career

Thompson played high school basketball for Pine Crest School in Fort Lauderdale, Florida, earning many awards and honors. During his junior season, he helped lead the school to the Class 4A championship game, where Pine Crest defeated Santa Fe High School in a thrilling double-overtime victory. During the title game, Thompson put on a show, scoring 43 points, and helping Pine Crest to overcome an 8-point deficit during the last minute of the first overtime period.

Considered a 5-star recruit by ESPN and a 4-star recruit by Rivals.com, Thompson generated great interest among many college basketball programs. He received his first official scholarship offer in 2019 from the University of Alabama. After his junior season, Thompson had additional offers from several different schools including Arizona, Auburn, and Kansas. However, he decided not to play college basketball, choosing instead to join the recently formed Overtime Elite professional basketball league.

Who does Thompson play for?

The Amen Thompson team question is answered by naming the City Reapers which is part of the Overtime Elite professional basketball league. The Overtime Elite league was founded in 2021 for domestic and international basketball players from the ages of 16 to 20. It currently has 3 teams that compete against each other, while also playing other prep school and postgraduate teams/opponents.

Players sign contracts and are paid an annual salary of at least $100,000, with options to receive compensation in the form of a scholarship. Players are also enrolled in an academic program that teaches common high school courses as well as other types of classes dealing with subjects such as financial and mental wellness.

What Class is Thompson?

Because Thompson did not go to college, he is not part of a class in the traditional sense. However, he is currently in the final year of a 2-year contract that he signed with Overtime Elite and will more than likely enter the 2023 NBA Draft.

Amen’s Brother

Thompson has a twin brother Ausar, who is a fellow teammate on the City Reapers and previously played with Amen at Pine Crest School. Although not quite as highly regarded as Amen, Ausar is a top NBA prospect himself and will most likely be a top 10 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Amen Thompson Age

Thompson’s birthday is January 30, and he is 20 years old, making him one of the oldest players in the Overtime Elite league. He started his high school career a year early in the 8th grade, allowing him to jump to the Overtime Elite league before his official senior year of high school.

Amen Thompson Ranking

Thompson has enjoyed a high ranking in the prospect world since his early days of high school basketball in 2019. He is currently ranked as one of the top guard prospects in the upcoming NBA draft, a great position to be in considering the guard-centric play that has come to dominate the league in the last 2 decades.

Amen Thompson NBA Draft Projection

The Amen Thompson wiki page certainly doesn’t read like a traditional NBA prospect, as he chose a relatively unique path to the league by way of the Overtime Elite league. However, this has not hindered his standing among NBA scouts in the least. Thompson’s NBA future is incredibly bright, as he is expected to be a top 5 pick in the 2023 NBA Draft.

Thompson has incredible athleticism, great ball-handling skills, a quick first step, and an impressive finishing ability at the rim. The only question surrounding his game is his perimeter/outside shooting, which could be an issue in the modern NBA if he doesn’t improve in this area. Either way, Thompson has the potential to be a very good starting NBA guard or wing.
